Testing Beliefs in Public
This blog exists for one simple reason:
Most political commentary is a finished product—a polished “hot take” delivered with absolute certainty. You get the conclusion, but you never see the math.
This blog is different. I’m showing my work.
We live in an era of performative certainty, where changing your mind is seen as a weakness. I disagree. I think the most interesting part of any legal or political debate isn’t the final vote, it’s the messy, complicated, and often frustrating journey of figuring out what actually makes sense.
"I have always strenuously supported the right of every man to his own opinion, however different that opinion might be to mine. He who denies to another this right, makes a slave of himself to his present opinion, because he precludes himself the right of changing it" - Thomas Paine
How This Works
Every topic we tackle here follows a specific, transparent four-step arc:
The Intuition: I start with my gut reaction to a policy, law, or political event. I’ll be honest about my biases and what I think I know.
The Deep Dive: I stop talking and start reading. I dig into the original texts, the historical precedents, and the dry-but-important data that usually gets ignored.
The Steelman: Before I reach a verdict, I spend time trying to prove myself wrong. I look for the strongest possible version of the opposing argument.
The Verdict: Only after the research is done do I share a final opinion. Sometimes my intuition is confirmed; often, it’s completely dismantled.
Join the Process
If you agree, disagree, or think I missed something important, I welcome serious engagement.
Evidence matters here. Strong arguments matter. Respect matters.
The goal is not to win debates. The goal is to understand the structure of our system well enough to improve it.
If that interests you, you’re in the right place.
